I was first licensed in 1980 at age 15 as a "Novice" (Swedish C-class license) and I obtained full license priviliges (at the time known as A-license) in 1982.
My father Torsten (a.k.a. Tor) was also a ham 1948-1990 (silent key).
My first station consisted of an old "boatanchor" transmitter, a Johnson Viking Invader and a KW Electronics KW-202 receiver. (I still have the transmitter in my possession.) The antennas were a K3AZ for 80-15m and a 5/8 vertical for the 10m band.
A fun story is that my father had secretly reduced the max output of the transmitter from 100W (2 x 6146) to 10W (being the max power allowed for C-class) and recalibrated the output meter to show full reading at 10W. So I was slightly worried that I was exceeding the power limit, but unbeknownst to me, in reality I wasn't(!) I worked over 100 countries the first year, probably partly due to the "psychology" of believing I had more power than I actually had...
In 1981 I upgraded to B-license, meaning I could (almost) run 100W. We then bought a Drake B-line from a local ham friend (SM3CGE).
I had a period of low/moderate activity around 1988-1998 due to my studies at KTH, Stockholm which is far away from the SM3 QTH. And in principle, ever since 1985 (when I first came to Stockholm for military duty) my activity has mainly been limited to weekend and vacation trips to SM3-land.
I had no rig that could operate the WARC bands until 1995 when I imported a Kenwood TS-450S during a visit to the US. In 1996 I started to be active on RTTY using a simple MFJ 1225 interface and a Commodore 64 computer. (Yes, you did read correctly, and believe it or not, but I was actually still using the C64 as late as 2003 when I "upgraded" to a Windows PC and soundcard interface...) In 2006 I decided to try some QRP operation so I got a Yaesu FT-817ND.
Starting in 2007 I have tried to be active also from my present apartment QTH in Bromma (just outside Stockholm), operating as SM0LGO (using the FT-817, an Elecraft T1 tuner, and simple wires/dipoles from the balcony).
"Professionally", as mentioned, I completed a MSc in 1993 and PhD in 1998. As of 1999 I work for Ericsson in Kista outside Stockholm.
